About the Project
Be the Warmth for Sadhus Battling Uttarkashi’s Harsh Winter
In sacred spiritual regions like Uttarkashi, Gangotri Dham, Rishikesh, and Kashi, thousands of sadhus live a life of complete renunciation. Wearing minimal saffron clothing, they give up comfort, shelter, and possessions to dedicate their lives to spirituality and the Almighty.
As winter arrives, temperatures in the Himalayan and northern regions drop sharply. The cold becomes unbearable—especially for elderly sadhus—who spend their days meditating, chanting, and serving humanity, often sleeping in open spaces, temple premises, or riverbanks.
Despite the biting cold, they remain silent, devoted, and steadfast in their spiritual journey.
Forgotten in the Cold
Sadhus are deeply respected in Indian culture, yet their daily struggles often go unnoticed.
They face:
• Harsh winter winds and freezing nights
• Lack of warm clothing and blankets
• Hunger and limited access to food
• Illness due to extreme cold
• Complete solitude with no support system
In Uttarkashi and Gangotri Dham, winter conditions are especially severe. Many sadhus survive with nothing more than thin clothes and faith.
This Winter, Let’s Protect Those Who Protect Our Spiritual Heritage
Shiv Dhaam Foundation is on the ground providing Winter Relief & Bhojan Seva for sadhus in:
• Uttarkashi
• Gangotri Dham
• Rishikesh
• Kashi
Our mission is to ensure that no sadhu suffers from cold or hunger during winter.
⸻
