About the Project
Location
Bathou Temple is located in the village of Katara, Udalguri district, Assam. It stands on its own land and serves as the main worship center for the Bodo Tribal community.
Divine Significance Established over 700 years ago, Bathou Temple was originally worshiped under a Sisou tree. Today, it holds deep spiritual significance as the central place of worship for the Bodo Tribal people. They believe in the sanctity of Air, Fire, Water, Land, and Sky as their main gods. This unique temple is a hub for daily prayers and rituals for the community.
Urgent Restoration Needed Despite its historical importance, Bathou Temple’s infrastructure is deteriorating. The main prayer hall, Kirtanghar, has been damaged by natural forces and requires urgent reconstruction. The Bodo community has been collecting funds from each family to begin this restoration but needs more resources to complete the work. The restoration includes rebuilding the Garvgreeha (sanctum sanctorum) and repairing the temple’s structure.
Our Need
Bathou Temple is crucial for preserving our cultural heritage and ensuring it continues to be a place of worship for future generations. The project will involve rebuilding key sections of the temple and restoring the spiritual sanctity of this historic site.
